Contact the Association
to arrange speakers for your group on the planting and managing of
alder, plus related log prices.
Much of our knowledge of alder forestry
stems from extensive work by the Hardwood Silviculture Cooperative
(Oregon State University, Corvallis, OR
http://www.cof.orst.edu/coops/hsc/) and related work by
Weyerhaeuser Co. There are now about 60 alder management research
sites covering a wide range of site conditions in western Oregon,
Washington, and British Columbia. Each site is a 10- to 20-acre
planting or thinning with a range of spacing treatments. We are
continuing to learn a great deal from these trials along with other
ongoing efforts to manage alder.
